Our Methods

Our Methods

At Three Feather Farms, we produce the highest quality Echinacea using proprietary growing and extraction methods. From controlled growing to specialized blending and filtering techniques, every aspect of our Echinacea tincture production is carefully managed

1) Extraction

Extraction Factors are Precise for Our Echinacea Extract/Tincture

As a result of ongoing research and testing, we take a calculated approach to the extraction of Echinacea plant components at Three Feather Farms. Harvesting includes cultivation, drying and grinding under controlled and supervised conditions. The process becomes even more rigid once we submerse this herbal stock in our proprietary mixture of water and alcohol. Since not all plant components are soluble in water, alcohol is critical to this formula. We have fine-tuned every aspect of our formula in order to successfully draw out the most desirable active compounds from our Echinacea Augustifolia pure root and whole plant blend. This precise and time-consuming process provides consistent results in our Echinacea extract/tincture; however, to maintain our high standards for quality and efficacy, every lot we make is tested.

2) Growing

Controlled Growing – Critical to Success

Though Echinacea plants are endemic to North America, they are not easy to grow as a commercial crop. At Three Feather Farms, we know this from experience! We have not been discouraged by natural attrition, however, only challenged. We are well on our way to mastering the growing of supreme quality Echinacea Augustifolia through our proprietary controlled growing methods.

At Three Feather Farms, We Know How to Grow Echinacea
With every growing season, our processes become more advanced and precise. We now grow Echinacea plants in a controlled environment, not in a field, where we closely monitor and manage every aspect of development. Echinacea Augustifolia is the only plant we grow at this time. We are experimenting with other commercially viable plants and will post new developments when available.

3) Plant Selection

Plant Selection – Only the Best Will Do

Just like every other step along our proprietary production path at Three Feather Farms, vigilant plant selection is essential to ensuring a high quality Echinacea tincture. Through carefully managed propagation of Echinacea Augustifolia we grow plants that consistently produce high levels of active compounds. In fact, we regularly test our plants for these substances and fine-tune our processes in response.

Superior Echinacea Plants
In any given growing period, there are always a handful of Echinacea super-plants—the largest and most robust plants in our plot. Looks can be deceiving, however, since the stature of these plants does not necessarily reflect the potency of their active compounds. For our astute research team, it’s what’s inside that counts. And it is the medicinally superior Echinacea plants that are propagated at Three Feather Farms.

4) Seed Selection

Echinacea Seed Selection.

A typical Echinacea plant produces between 800-1000 seeds in full bloom and no two seeds among the lot are the same. In fact, no seed carries identical DNA to the mother plant. This is Nature’s way of mitigating risk and ensuring that at least one Echinacea seed will survive and propagate.

Echinacea Seeds Engineered for Natural Power
Our innovative research team has worked diligently at reproducing consistent desirable properties in Echinacea Augustifolia. From Echinacea seeds to aerial components to the root structure, our proprietary growing methods deliver reliable results.

5) Blending

Regulated & Controlled Blending Techniques

Health Canada has developed strict guidelines for the production of natural health products such as Echinacea tincture. At Three Feather Farms, we do not waiver from these requirements. These guidelines, do, however, allow for slight variances in our formulation. This small window allows us to produce our Echinacea tincture according to industry guidelines as well as our own high standards for efficacy—and to offer custom blends* to wholesalers and retailers. It is varied proportions of Echinacea Augustifolia pure root and whole plant combinations that determine unique signatures. Our manufacturing and blending is currently done through Capsol Inc, an Edmonton Alberta based company. Capsol is a custom manufacturer and private labeler of high-quality natural health products since 2000, Capsol operates under the strict guidelines of Canadian Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) set forth by Health Canada’s Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) regulations (Site License No. 300253) All our tinctures are manufactured to our specifications following these high standards set out by Health Canada’s Natural Health Products Directorate.

A Superior Echinacea Tincture
Echinacea tincture is the purest and most concentrated form of this medicinal herb. At Three Feather Farms, we continually invest in research and development in order to produce the highest quality tincture available. From plant propagation through extraction to proprietary blending techniques, Three Feather Farms exceeds expectations.

6) Filtering

Filtering Techniques that Deliver Premium Echinacea Tincture

The final step in the production of our Three Feather Naturals™ Echinacea tincture is fine-filtering. Techniques developed by our research team ensure that our final product is always sediment-free. In fact, when desirable plant compounds are not successfully suspended in our proprietary solution, we further refine our extraction and blending processes to correct this issue. At Three Feather Farms, the production of echinacea tincture is controlled and precise.

Echinacea Angustifolia & Echinacea Purpurea
Echinacea products are available in many different forms—tablets, capsules and tinctures of various potencies. Often, only Echinacea Purpurea is ground and encapsulated. At Three Feather Farms, ongoing research and development has shown an effective formulation to be very specific proportions of both Echinacea Augustifolia and Echinacea Purpurea in a water/alcohol suspension. We produce nothing less than the best tincture—every time.
